You can share your Revit models with other project members in 3D Repo. We always recommend using our plugin, as it's the most efficient and robust way for model sharing. Alternatively, you can upload your Revit files directly on our platform. There are just a few simple steps to follow and when your model is ready you can upload it as shown here Upload a model.

We currently support the following Revit file versions: 2018, 2019 & 2020.

Model Set up

To help you achieve the best results we highly advise you do the following:

  • Create a 3D View and change its name to 3D Repo.
Our platform will use this view to generate the 3D geometry

  • Remove all the unnecessary 3D/2D views, Sheets, Schedules & Legends as
This will help you reduce the file size.
If you do not want to do this task manually, feel free to use our sample Dynamo Script. You can execute the script in Dynamo player.

  • Purge your model prior to uploading it to 3D Repo
This will help you reduce the file size

  • Save your model and upload it to 3D Repo

  • A successfully uploaded & processed Revit model will look like such

Upload Model Selection

In some cases, you may wish to divide your Revit model before uploading it to 3D Repo. This exercise helps you reduce the file size if it is too large for the web-browser. For others, it's an option to federate models however they like in 3D Repo.

Here are the two main options that you can use:

Section Box

Once you have defined the 3D view as shown in earlier steps of this article, apply a section box to your view. Any model element that is outside of the section box will be excluded and therefore will not process in 3D Repo.
Here is an example of how it works:

Hiding Model Elements

Once you have defined the 3D view as shown in earlier steps of this article, start hiding model elements that you don't want to see in 3D Repo. Any model element that is hidden in the 3D View will not appear in 3D Repo, simple as that.

Here is an example of how it works:
